Tuesday August 18,
2015 Day 21 Grand Teton N.P., Gros Ventre Campground, site 69 last day
Woke up to a 41o trailer and a 37o outside
temperature. We don’t leave the furnace
on during the night because we have such a cozy bed with our two Pendleton wool
blankets. It’s when you get up, that’s
cold. And the furnace thermostat isn’t
remote control, so some brave soul has to get out of bed, turn on the furnace,
start the coffee, and crawl back into bed.
By the time the furnace gets us up to 60, the coffee is nearly
ready. We didn’t bother sitting out this
morning.
Fished the Gros Ventre River today with my one day WY
license I purchased yesterday to fish the Snake. I fished it in the same spot I fished on our
first day here. But I went up river quite
a way this time. Still had no luck. Had one on for about 10 seconds, but he got
off. This river does not fish like
others. You usually see fish rising now
and then and you can target them. If
they aren’t rising to surface food, then you can usually have some success
resorting to nymphs. But this river
doesn’t play by those rules. Walking
back downstream, I ran into another angler going up and we chatted a
little. This was his first time on this
river and he made similar observations.
It doesn’t seem like that river holds many fish. However, he had caught two by the time I met
him. As always, any time spent fly
fishing for trout is always a good time.
Had two great leftovers for supper to use them up. Marsha’s chili and grilled salmon with yogurt
dill sauce. The dill sauce was for the
salmon, not the chili. And we didn’t mix
the salmon in the chili. They were
separate entrees.
We got all packed up for our travels tomorrow to the
Flathead National Forest, where we are trying to get closer to Glacier National
Park. We have over 400 miles to travel
tomorrow, one of our longer days, so we will leave early.
